Split shift
A split shift is a working day in two parts with an unbookable gap between them, such as 9 to 12 and 2 to 6. It lets a shop stay open longer without one person working the whole day.
Also called: broken shift, split schedule, two-part shift
Split shifts are common when a shop extends its hours for a busy season. Two people can cover a long day between them, or one person can cover the morning and the evening with a break in the middle.
For employed staff, the hours on each side of the gap still count toward the weekly total, so a split shift does not change the overtime arithmetic.
In Booked, a staff member can have more than one time range on the same weekday on Dashboard → Hours. The gap between ranges is not bookable. Only the part of a staff member's hours that falls inside the shop's hours can be booked.
