Add your first staff member

The calendar hangs every appointment on a person. A shop of one still adds that person, and it is usually you, under the name customers should see. This page is that first row, from an empty Staff list through to a booking page that can actually be booked.

If you're a solo shop, add yourself as staff. The calendar needs a person to hang appointments on.

Booked always assigns an appointment to a staff member — that is the column it sits in on the calendar. So even a shop of one needs one staff row, and it is usually you.

The steps below are the whole job for that first person. Add a staff member is the same dialog, used again for each person you hire after this one.

Steps

  1. Open Dashboard → Staff.
  2. Click Add staff.
  3. Enter your display name — what customers see. Everything else (photo, email, phone, colour, bio) is optional.
  4. Save.
  5. Open the new row and tick your services under Services they do & pricing.

Step 5 is the one people skip. A staff member with no services ticked does not appear on the public page at all, so a shop that has added itself and nothing else looks like it has no availability.

Solo shops

Add one row with your own name. The booking page still has a team step, and that row is the only name on it. "Any available" shows up only once a second person offers the same service.

Use your working name, not your legal one. It appears on the booking page and in every confirmation.

Multi-chair shops

Add each person separately, tick their own services, and set their hours if they work less than the shop does.

What about people who do not take bookings?

A receptionist, or an apprentice still training: add them if you want them on the calendar, and leave their services empty. They will not appear on the public page and no customer can book them.

Your own hours

A new staff member inherits the shop's opening hours, so a full-timer needs nothing further. Set them only if you work a partial week — see Set staff hours.

What should the booking page show after this row is saved?

Open Dashboard → Staff and choose Add staff. The dialog is titled Add a person. Display name is the only required field, up to 80 characters. Use the working name, not a legal one: it is the name on the booking page and in every confirmation.

In the same dialog, under Services they do & pricing, tick every service you perform. A saved row with nothing ticked does not appear on the public page, so the shop looks closed even though you added yourself. Leave the price and duration overrides blank unless this person charges differently from the service; a blank override uses the service's own price and length.

Email and phone can stay empty. Email me when booked is on by default and only sends when an email is on the row.

With one person assigned, the public team step lists that one name. There is no "Any available" choice until a second person offers the same service.

Starter includes this one person. Saving a second staff row on Starter stops and asks you to move to Pro before that row is stored. Hours begin as a copy of the shop's opening hours, which is what you want when you are the only one working them.
